My works focus on giving a visual vacation and a relaxing time to the exhausted and weary modern people. I get inspired by nature and try to convey its purity that can relieve some stress. I think that would be the greatest joy as an artist.
저의 작품은 지치고 힘든 현대인들에게 시각적으로 휴가를 즐기고 휴식시간을 느끼는데 촛점을 맞추고 있습니다. 자연으로부터 영감을 받고 자연이 선사하는 순수함을 통해 스트레스를 조금이라도 풀 수 있다면 작가로서 최고의 기쁨이 아닌가 생각합니다.

If a lost wanderer in the desert finds an oasis, it could be called ‘heaven’. I try to capture that kind of emotion from nature and express it in my works. People live in an era where they rely on mechanical civilization and become distant from nature, but I think they can never live without nature. In that sense, I want to offer a ‘rest’ like an ‘oasis’ to the modern people who are tired of their dark lives through my works.
사막을 헤메는 길 잃은자가 오아시스를 발견한다면 그것은 '천국'이라고 할 수 있을 것입니다. 그러한 감동을 자연에서 발견하고 작품에 그려 넣기 위해 노력하고 있습니다. 사람들은 기계문명에 떠 맡긴채 자연과 점점 멀어지는 시대에 살고 있지만 결코 자연을 떠나서는 살 수 없다고 생각합니다. 그런 점에서 사막에서 길 잃은 자에게 오아시스를 발견하듯 어두운 삶에 지친 현대인에게 '오아시스'와 같은 '쉼'을 저의 작품을 통해 선사하고 싶습니다.

 

My works can be classified into three main themes. The first one is ‘Island of Resort’. These works depict islands that do not exist in reality but make you want to visit and rest for a few days. If the dark life of modern people is ‘desert’, then escaping from the desert is ‘crossing the sea’ and the island is ‘oasis’. The oasis can be a place of ‘rest’ or ‘heaven’. This is why I paint islands as a theme.

저의 작품은 크게 3가지의 테마로 분류됩니다. 첫째, '휴양지의 섬'입니다. 이 작품들은 현실적으로는 존재 하지는 않지만 한 번쯤은 가서 몇일 쉬고 싶은 생각이 들 것 같은 섬을 표현하고 있습니다. 현대인의 어두운 삶이 '사막'라고 한다면 '사막'을 벗어나는 것을 '바다를 건너는 것'이라고 할 수 있고 '섬'은 바로 '오아시스'라고 할 수 있으며 '오아시스'는 곳 '휴식' 이나 '천국'이라고 할 수 있습니다. 이것이 섬을 주제로 그리는 이유입니다.

 

The second one is ‘Toucan’ - ‘Bird’. The bright-colored flowers and the big-billed bird - toucan are projections of human beings and symbols of what we have lost in the progress of civilization. That’s why I paint toucans to deliver a message to people that we should reclaim what we have lost before it’s too late.

둘째, '토코투칸' - '새'입니다. 선명한 색의 꽃과 큰 부리를 가진 새-토코투칸은 인류의 투영이자 문명의 진보에서 잃어버린 인류의 상징입니다. 그래서 토코투칸을 그리는 이유는 사람들에게 우리가 너무 늦기 전에 잃어버린 것을 되찾아야 한다는 메시지를 전달하기 위함입니다.

 

The third one is ‘Flowers and Animals’. The flowers in my works are the breath of nature that become mountains, seas, and sometimes fresh air. And the animals that live in harmony with nature are the crystallization of nature that represent human purity and deliver a message of hope.

셋째, '꽃과 동물'입니다. 저의 작품에 나오는 꽃들은 자연의 숨결이고 그것들은 산이 되고 바다가 되고 때로는 신선한 공기가 됩니다. 그리고 자연에 순응하며 살아가는 동물들은 인간의 순수성을 대변하는 자연의 결정체로 희망의 메세지를 전달하고 있습니다.

 

I hope and pray that my works can become an ‘oasis’ that can provide visual ‘healing’ to many people like an ‘oasis’ found in the ‘desert’.

저의 작품이 앞으로 '사막'에서 발견하는 '오아시스'처럼 많은 사람들에게 시각적으로 '힐링'할 수 있는 '오아시스'가 되길 진심으로 바라고 기도합니다.
